This write-up will help you unlearn(previous knowledge to food) to relearn and have the right knowledge about food(nutrition) and grow an attitude towards it.
Knowledge is power especially when it's the right one.
If you ask a lay man what food is, he or she might say "food is anything edible, raw, semi processed, liquid or solid I consume to gain strength(energy) for my daily activities and help me grow.
Each person however is entitled to his/her definition about food, due to their knowledge about food.
Those definition may or may not be correct owing to the fact that their current knowledge on Nutrition can lead to bad food choices detrimental to health and exposing them to diseases or increasing their risk of developing one and of course an unhealthy lifestyle is built.
But that's about to change.
Along the line you will see the true and correct definition to food and general Nutrition.
A right knowledge about;
what we eat,
when we should eat,
and how we eat food helps one cub these excesses(noncommunicable diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, malnutrition, ulcers, anaemia, rickets, osteoporosis, marasmus, scurvy, obesity and cancer etc).
oops, you did not know that some diseases are associated to food consumption.
What you eat can either increase your chances of developing these diseases or not or it can suppress it's manifestation for those that are hereditary.
Now you know.
Every day, several times a day, we make food choices that influence our bodyís health for better or worse.
Each dayís choices may benefit or harm our health only a little, but when these choices are repeated over years and decades, the rewards or consequences become major. That being the case, paying close attention to good eating habits now can bring us health benefits later.
Conversely, carelessness about food choices can contribute to many chronic diseases prevalent in later life, including heart disease and cancer.
Having a right attitude towards the food you eat is key.
General health is key and the right knowledge to food can help you out to achieve it.
You can start by wondering!!
what then is food?(since I may be wrong in my definition about it)
why do I eat food?
how do I inculcate a good eating habit?
The following will address those questions:
let's define Food(Nutrition)
Nutrition: the science of foods and the
nutrients and other substances they contain, and of their actions within the body(including ingestion, digestion, absorption, transport, metabolism, and excretion).
A broader definition includes the social,
economic, cultural, and psychological
implications of food and eating.
Foods: products derived from plants or
animals that can be taken into the body to yield energy and nutrients for the
maintenance of life, growth and development, repair of tissues, body metabolism and immunity.
Diet: the foods and beverages a person eats and drinks.
Note that if any food you consume daily doesn't provide the necessary characteristics of the food from the definition, then you are not eating food but junks, and trust me, junks are bad(eating habits).
Of course, some people will become ill or die young no matter what choices they make, and others will live long lives despite making poor choices.
For the majority of us, however, the food choices you make each and every day will benefit or impair your health in proportion to the wisdom of those choices.
Although most people realize that their food habits affect their health, they often choose foods for other reasons. After all, foods bring to the table a variety of
pleasures, traditions, and associations as well as nourishment.
The challenge, then, is to combine favorite foods and fun times with a nutritionally balanced diet.
We decide what to eat, when to eat, and even whether to eat in highly personal
ways, often based on behavioral or social motives rather than on an awareness of nutritionís importance to health.
Many different food choices can support good health, and an understanding of nutrition helps you make sensible selections more often.
